How a meal-delivery business keeps food safe in transport

Chilled and frozen ready-made meals stacked on shelves inside a refrigerated delivery van

A catering client came to us with a problem every mobile food business has: once the van doors close, you lose visibility. Food leaves the place at the right temperature and you have no idea what happens to it until it arrives at the destination.

This is a gap in compliance records.

°Celsi built a mobile monitoring setup for a meal-delivery client running both frozen and chilled meal routes. A mini-hub stores every reading on an SD card, without a SIM or mobile data plan, logging temperature every minute during transport. The moment the truck’s back in Wi-Fi range, all the data syncs with the server. It supports up to 4 sensors across multiple storage areas (back door, front, etc.).

The °Celsi web app open on a vehicle's dashboard screen, showing a temperature chart for the truck sensor alongside the mini-hub mounted below

The standard way to do this is a SIM-connected tracker, roughly $200–300 for the device plus about $200 a year in mobile data, just to get a connected feed. °Celsi setup skips that cost, which makes it easy to use and affordable.

There’s no battery either, and that’s on purpose for safety reasons. The hub runs off the vehicle’s own power, through a USB or cigarette-lighter plug.

What this gives you:

  • Temperature visibility during transport, not just before and after
  • An automatic HACCP-ready record for every delivery
  • Proof the meals stayed in range the whole way, not just at the ends

The same setup works for butchers delivering to restaurants.

Want the truck’s approximate location too? We got you covered. It’s a separate add-on and requires no GPS hardware.
